Woolworth’s Sidewalk Sale, Marlow Heights Shopping Center. They used to have these once or twice a year, and the employees would dress in costumes. Note the Marlow Heights Shopping Center sign in the photo at left in the upper right corner, the, “Apple Pie 30¢, in the upper left of the photo on right, as well as those oh-so-groovy mannequins. |

The old Steak In A Sack restaurant, in the Marlow Heights Shopping Center, been around since 1962. Remember the individual juke boxes they had in the booths? It’s only open now for breakfast and lunch, and closes at 3 p.m. (4 p.m. on Saturdays). Here’s an image of the first page of their menu, page 2, page 3, and page 4. The food is as good as we remember it, and there are still people working there from its beginning. |

Iverson Mall. Sadly, it’s just a shell of its old, vibrant self (see page 1 of the Sights Page). In my recent experiences there, and that of the photo contributor, the stores inside are “second and third tier”, and “thugs” roam the place now. But if you squint real hard at the photo at left, you can remember the Jr. Hot Shoppes in front of the building at the left, and the Peoples Drug Store behind it. Of course the second floor overpass (which we thought was way cool back then), and on the lower level to the building at the right below it used to be a Bank of Maryland. |
