Marlow Heights 60s and 70s

Potomac Senior High School

Potomac High School is located in Oxon Hill, and is still open today. One thing that’s changed is the school  mascot from the, “Braves”, to the, “Wolverines”. I don’t know why the change was made, but wouldn’t be surprised if it was due to pressure to be more politically correct. Here’s a link to the school’s web site as it is today. Anyone remember the school newspaper, the Drumbeat? Here’s a cover from the May 1976 issue, and inside. For April 1977, here’s the cover, and inside. Finally, here is the May 1977 issue front cover, and inside. From John Margelos, here’s a cover from the 1971 yearbook.

Remember Chief Powhatan? This is Charlie Jones from the early 70s in his role as the Braves’ mascot.

TWO Chief Powhatans? That’s Marie Temple, Potomac ‘75, and Charlie Jones, Potomac ‘73 in full headdress, buckskin fringe ‘a flyin’, before a home football game.
