Marlow Heights 60s and 70s

Mighty Mo_Hot Shoppes Reunion

The second annual MightyMo/Hot Shoppes reunion was hosted by Jim, Becky, and the good folks from the Antietam Gallery (http://www.antietamgallery.com/mighty_mo_final_2_alt.htm) in Sharpsburg, Maryland, June 24-25. Available were prints of paintings done of the Mighty Mo on New Hampshire Avenue and the Hot Shoppes in Wheaton Plaza. The biggest draw, though, were the Mighty Mo’s, fries, onion rings, and Orange Freezes that were prepared on site by caterers, using recipes from the official Marriott Hot Shoppes cook book. As someone that worked at the Jr. Hot Shoppes in front of Iverson Mall, I’d have to say that they got it down pretty good (the Royal Burger was the same thing as a Mighty Mo). If you didn’t attend this event, then the only way you’ll be able to taste an authentic Mighty Mo (aka Royal Burger) and Orange Freeze, is to take the Marriott cook book and make it yourself. But bookmark next year to attend this event. Muscle cars, hot rods, Mighty Mo’s/Royal Burgers, and Orange Freezes will be the order of the day. Don’t miss out, because this could be something of your Marlow Heights and vicinity past that could go the way of the Dodo bird in the next few years. What follows are pictures of the event.
