MARLOW HEIGHTS

We had the Marlow Heights 60’s and 70’s, “Back-to-School”, dance on October 3, 2009, at the American Legion in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, from 6 p.m. until midnight. An initial estimate is that we had approximately 250 people attend, mostly alumni from Crossland, Potomac, and Suitland, from the 60’s and 70’s. We also had Mighty Mo’s, fries, onion rings, and Orange Freezes, prepared by the wonderful American Legion staff. As I add photos, I will include other information I’m waiting on, such as the names of the attendees. If you took any pictures at the dance, and would like to see them on here, please email them to me, in high resolution if possible. Also, I won’t be able to identify everyone in the pictures yet, so I’m relying upon everyone to write to me and help me out with the names. That aside, I think based upon the success of this dance, we may want to consider having one in March or April, calling it the Marlow Heights 60s and 70s, “Spring Break”, dance. Those who attended, I’d also like to hear your constructive criticism on how future dances can be improved.

1. Under the image of the Marlow Heights Shopping Center sign lit up (with one letter burnt out!), folks start to arrive.

2. Orange Freeze meisters Joci (Oxon Hill ‘71) and Rod Adams, Potomac ‘74, whipping up another batch of the cool treat.

3. Unknown, Carleen (Sturgess) Peterson, Sandymount, Stoddert, Potomac ‘75, and Terri (Anderson) Cory.

4. Kirk Adams, Potomac ‘76, and wife (name?), unknown, and Rod Adams, Potomac ‘74.

5. A perfectly made, huge bowl of Mighty Mo sauce, ready to be slathered on that revered burger.

6. Let the Mighty Mo procession begin!

7. That’s Ann (Stafford) Jones (Crossland ‘68) in the turquoise t-shirt and jeans. Thanks for the outstanding job, ladies.

10. Billy Johnston (Stoddert) and I (Valley View, Green Valley, Sandymount, Stoddert, Potomac ‘76). We were teammates on a Silver Hill Boys Club baseball team in 1969.

13. A plate of a Mighty Mo, fries, and onion ring. Note: the Mighty Mo/Royal Burger only had one slice of cheese, in the middle layer, and lettuce was only on the bottom bun.

8. And the loooooong line for the Mighty Mo’s begins.

9. A couple of as yet unidentified ladies load up on the ‘Mo’s, fries, and ‘rings.

11. The line for the ‘Mo’s goes back to the DJ’s stand. In the foreground I believe that’s John Berger on the left, and Mike Ray (both Potomac ‘75), back to camera.

12. In the center are Lisa Snead (Holy Family) and mother, Sandy Snead. The Sneads are old friends who lived three houses up from me, and Sandy is still there in Deer Park Heights.
